Lynn Lake Strong, Dammit — A Love Letter to Home in a Time of Crisis

Lynn Lake Strong, Dammit — A Love Letter to Home in a Time of Crisis

Earlier this week, we experienced one of those rare and beautiful days that remind us exactly why we do what we do. What was supposed to be a laid-back afternoon signing bottles of Dammit Coffee Liqueur with Todd Kerns quickly turned into something deeper — something that pulled at the heart, stirred the soul, and left us all changed.

Yes, Todd Kerns is a world-class musician. But if you’ve ever met him, you know he’s more than just a powerhouse on stage — he’s a genuinely kind and humble human being. This was a scheduled “off day” for Todd (though if you know him, you know he doesn’t really do “off”). The plan was simple: stop by a few Manitoba Liquor Marts in Winnipeg to sign some bottles and say hello.

But what unfolded became something far more meaningful — a reconnection with home, a quiet moment of reflection, and a powerful reminder of where we come from and the people who shaped us.

From Garden City to Crestview to Grant Park, every Liquor Mart welcomed us with wide smiles and warm hearts. Sure, people were excited about the liqueur — but when they saw Todd Kerns walk through the doors, their faces lit up. His presence filled every room, turned every interaction into something special. They would’ve let him sign every bottle on the shelf if he’d had the time. Hell, they probably would’ve let me sign them too.

In between stops, we shared stories about life on the road, growing up in the Prairies, hockey, music, and what it means to carry your Canadian identity while living far from home. Todd spoke with love and pride about Lynn Lake — a remote northern Manitoba town where the winters are long, the community is tight, and roots run deep.

And then came a moment that stopped us all.

As we were leaving the Garden City Liquor Mart, I pointed across the street to the indoor soccer complex. I mentioned that some evacuees from the Lynn Lake wildfires might be staying there, displaced by the fast-moving flames sweeping across the north.

Todd looked over.

He went quiet.

Then, softly, with his head bowed, he said:
“I wish I could do something to help.”

Now — he is.

Together, we’ve created the “Lynn Lake Strong, Dammit” T-shirt — a bold declaration of love, pride, and solidarity. All proceeds will go toward wildfire relief efforts for the people of Lynn Lake, many of whom have been forced to leave their homes behind, not knowing what they'll return to.

Northern Manitoba is facing a serious and heartbreaking crisis. As of this week, dozens of communities have been affected by active wildfires, with thick smoke blanketing skies and entire families evacuated for their safety. Lynn Lake, a town with a population of just over 500, has been particularly hard hit. The people there are resilient, no doubt. But they need us.

This shirt isn’t just fabric and ink. It’s a message.
It says: We see you. We love you. We stand with you.
It says: Lynn Lake Strong, Dammit.

Sometimes, life gives us these unexpected gifts — moments that strip away the noise and bring us right back to what really matters.

That day was one of those gifts.

If you’ve ever felt inspired by Todd’s music, his story, or his spirit — this is your chance to give back. To stand with him. To stand with Lynn Lake.

Because when community calls, we answer.

Always.

Order your "Lynn Lake Strong, Dammit" shirt now.
Let’s wear our hearts on our sleeves — and show northern Manitoba that they are not alone.
