At Writers & Rockers Coffee, we’ve always believed that great coffee connects people — but sometimes, it does something even more powerful. Sometimes, it changes lives.
That’s exactly what’s happening on a quiet corner in River Heights, where a group of young heroes are proving that kindness, compassion, and community can make a world of difference.
Every Thursday morning, from 8:20 to 8:45 a.m., before school starts, nine-year-old Annie MacDonald and her friends open their pop-up coffee stand at the corner of Waterloo Street and Kingsway. It’s only open for 25 minutes — but in that short time, they’ve raised over $2,000 for CancerCare Manitoba.
“I wanted to help because it’s really sad when people have cancer,” Annie explains. Her empathy and determination have inspired not just her friends and family, but an entire community.
Behind the scenes, her parents help brew coffee and pack up fresh banana bread, while neighbours and grandparents pitch in with baked goods and moral support. What started as a simple idea has grown into a movement — with local businesses, friends, and families rallying behind these young changemakers.
When we at Writers & Rockers Coffee Company heard Annie’s story, we knew we had to join in. So, we created a brand-new coffee blend in their honor — Kids’ Care Coffee — a whole bean coffee with heart.
Every purchase of Kids’ Care Coffee supports Annie’s fundraiser, with proceeds donated to CancerCare Manitoba.
“As a company built on creativity, compassion, and community, we’re incredibly proud to back Annie and her friends,” says Robert Young, founder of Writers & Rockers Coffee. “In a world that can feel divided, these kids remind us what really matters — caring for others.”
So next time you pour yourself a cup of coffee, let it be one that makes a difference. Choose Kids’ Care Coffee — and help support the next generation of changemakers, one brew at a time.
